New Timeslot
TechTAK has, once again, changed timeslots. We are, as of 01/06/2007, in the prime slot for Saturdays. Airtime is now 4-5pm Alaska time. (That's 5-6pm Pacific, 8-9pm Eastern, 1-2am GMT).

» The BEST way: Call in during the show (4pm-5pm AKDT every Saturday) at 907-458-TALK (8255) and ask your question on the air.
» Ask your question in the chat room during the show. Click HERE to enter the chat room
» Email us by clicking HERE anytime during the week.‡
» Send us a question by fax during the week at 907-479-4510‡
» Call us during the week at Raven Mill (907-479-4497) and ask your question.‡
(‡ We get these up to about an hour prior to air time.)

Takali's Tricky Tips

TIPS NOTE:
Most of our Tips & Tricks are posted here for users of Windows XP (home, pro & media center editions) and so the instructions may not be the same if you are using a version other than that. If you have windows 95a/b/c, 98/98se, ME, NT or 2000, you are welcome to write an email and ask for the instructions to the tip using whichever version of Windows you are using. Some of these, however cannot be done in anything but the XP versions of windows. As promised, we are putting the JAVA manual install file link up here for those having problems getting into the chat room. Please make sure to UNINSTALL ANY PREVIOUS VERSIONS OF JAVA listed in your "Add/Remove programs" list. You can get the file by clicking HERE.

Restore a Lost Desktop
Awhile back, we received a call at the shop asking for help. The caller's program had crashed and their desktop had disappeared, leaving them with only the taskbar. After testing countless software apps and having them crash on me, I knew this one. And it's actually quite easy. Follow these steps:
1. Click START
2. Select RUN
3. Type in a period "."
4. Click OK
Now you should have your desktop back.

Hibernate Desktop Icon
For those of you who use hibernate mode as much as I do, this is a great little tip. It allows you to create a shortcut icon on your desktop or your quicklaunch to hibernate your system without having to go through the normal odd procedure. Follow these steps:
1. Right-click an empty space on your desktop.
2. Select NEW/SHORTCUT
3. Type in: "rundll32.exe PowrProf.dll SetSuspendState"
4. Click NEXT
5. Clear the text and type in "Hibernate"
6. Click FINISH
Now you should have a shortcut to hibernate. Try it out to make sure it works and you're set.

Here is the link to the free online anti-virus page. We have 5 different free web scanners listed. They are the ones we use, and to be honest, we use them ALL when we need them because some are better at finding some infections than the others.

Get WinAmp
We suggest using WINAMP for listening to TechTAK. You can get the latest FREE version of Winamp by clicking HERE. Be sure to get the FULL version, as that is the easiest and most stable.
